Alto is a jack of all trades. Trainer, coordinator, researcher, he can do it all, which gives him a bit of a big head. Naturally charismatic and charming, he flirts with everyone and doesn't mean any of it. Despite his wisecracking and too-cool-for-you attitutde in his day to day life, he treats his duty as a guardian of the Cave of Origin very seriously.
With the travelling nature at that point of his parents' careers, Alto was often babysat by his grandmother in his early childhood in Hoenn, growing up on Sootopolitan stories and fairytales. When his father landed a stationary job back in his home region of Alola, they moved away, but his time in Sootopolis left a lingering, lasting impression.
His younger sister, Aina, was born after the family's move to Alola, but they did return to Sootopolis to visit family regularly. Alto continued to feel the pull of Sootopolis, and eventually declared his intent to delve further into those traditions. On his tenth birthday, he chose to stay in Hoenn to study both ancient martial arts and rituals associated with the legacy of his family.
Trained in weaponry, he prefers the poleaxe. While he's skilled at fighting, he's only really done sparring - no actual fighting for life and death. He lacks the instinct to go for the throat.
A scion of the ancient people of Sootopolis, Alto has the ability to open the Sky Pillar, and other locations that are keyed to the bloodline.
Alto's affinity with water gives him the ability to manipulate water - hydrokinesis.

Kyogre: Sometimes, Alto dreams of something in the seas, large and glowing...
Alto inherits both his parents' ability to strike a dramatic pose. It's cheesy, but he likes it.
He keeps up with the coordinating circuit and the idol community, despite not participating in either. He's fairly popular in both, too, capable of weaseling out the latest gossip in quick and successive fashion.
He has a set of tattoos on his left arm - they're Sootopolis designs, derived from Kyogre and Groudon. The same designs are on his shoulder plate.
His right arm is not fully functional. He tries to keep this under wraps, hence the shoulder cape.
Sometimes, he gestures expressively as he talks. It's unconscious, and he gets somewhat embarrassed about it if it's pointed out to him.
Alto is from music - alto is the voice in between soprano and tenor.
Mizuiro is the 'colour of water' in Japanese.
