Candice is bright and upbeat, her enthusiasm shining through. She loves to help, cheerfully involved in her city and community. Patient despite her exuberance, her frequent visits at the trainer's school attached to her gym make her popular with the children.
Candice's parents were explorers, bringing her on expeditions out into the snowfields and the mountains. Once, they were caught in a huge blizzard, the snowstorm of the century, and Candice returned to Snowpoint days later, parents missing. Instead, she was passed around from relative to relative, never quite bonding with anyone apart from her cousins. According to her teachers, she lacked focus, always off in her own head, lost somewhere out in the snow.
One day, skiving off school, Candice wandered all the way to the Acuity shrine and met Hale. Oddly, she kept going back, captivated by the lake, the spirit within, and its guardian. Hale eventually took her under his wing, and under their guidance, Candice became determined to flourish as a student and a trainer, eventually succeeding him as Gym Leader.
Candice's ice affinity lets her brave the snow without freezing. Able to withstand lower temperatures than other humans, she delights in the feeling of the snow. She can also manipulate it to some extent - traversing on top of snow without leaving footprints is simple for her. Interestingly enough, she also never seems to lose her way in the snow.
Hale (mentor): Candice is immensely grateful to Hale for his patience and wisdom in putting up with a kid like her. She constantly visits for tea, chess, and gossip.
Maylene (partner): Candice and Maylene are in a long distance relationship, constantly travelling between Snowpoint and Veilstone City. Devoted and dedicated to each other, Candice admires and supports Maylene's focus and inner strength even in the face of Maylene's personal uncertainty, and how they've encouraged and grown alongside each other. As the years trudge on, the distance has become tiring, but they're both too dedicated to their jobs and their cities to uproot and move to the other. It's become a major source of friction between them.
Volkner: Volkner and Candice, as the last two gym leaders in Sinnoh's suggested 'Victory Road', do a lot of commiseration about the annoyances and challengers they face.
