Cydonia
This article is about the Sinnohan princess. For other usage, see Cydonia (disambiguation).
Cydonia was the second child of Ariston and Calanthe of Celestica. She was an accomplished rider and fighter, taking up her mother's military duties after her death in Sinjoh in 00. In 00, she revolted against her brother, Caedan, resulting in the Aristeian Civil War. She, along with her brother, died in the Battle of Sonoo in 00.

Civil War

Main article: Aristeian Civil War

Murmurings about Caedan's intent on making peace made high-ranking officials in the military uncomfortable. It is unclear whether Cydonia was worried about her place in Aristeian society or if she was persuaded to rebel by her advisors and generals, but she attacked [location] and formally declared war against Caedan in 00.

Her marriage to Heir Daron of House Zelos afforded her extensive connections to the military, particularly to House Zelos' formidable wyvern riders.

Death and Aftermath

Most sources agree Cydonia fell in the Battle of Sonoo alongside Caedan. Their younger sister disappeared without a trace, bringing an end to the Aristeian Age. Her husband Daron escaped, but later died of his injuries. House Zelos was pursued relentlessly by Houses Themis and Prometheus until almost no trace remained in Sinnoh.

Some conflicting sources suggest Cydonia and Daron escaped to Unova with the remains of House Zelos and several unnamed priceless Aristeian treasures. While modern DNA analysis of Unovan dragon affinity populations suggests an aspect of Sinnohan ancestry, there is no evidence that Cydonia made it to Unova or had any descendants that live on in the modern day.

Legacy

As with the other members of her family, Cydonia makes appearances in various adaptations and writings on the Aristeian Period. Historians tend to be fairly divided on her role in the Civil War, with some arguing that she was mislead and used by House Zelos in their bid for power, and others saying that she had every intention of seizing the throne for herself. Thus, the interpretations of her character in plays tend to be either cartoonishly misguided or evil.

Cydonia is featured on the Spare/Usurper card of the Aleph oraculum deck.
