House Prometheus
"Prometheus" redirects here. For the historical figure, see Prometheus of Kardomos.
House Prometheus is one of four Noble Houses of Sinnoh created by the Archons Ariston and Calanthe at their coronation. A reward to Prometheus of Kardomos for his support after he swore a blood oath of allegiance to House Ariste, the house is mostly made up of psychic affinities. Known for their weaving and spinning, they continue to be a significant influence in Sinnoh's textile industry even into the modern day. Their headquarters are located in Hearthome City, the modern-day equivalent of Kardomos. The current head of House Prometheus is Lord Regulus Adrasteia.

History

Origins

In 00, Michina, under the command of Ariston and Calanthe clashed with the forces of Kardomos. Kardomos drew out the siege, but was on the brink of defeat. Through the efforts of the second son of the Lord of Kardomos at the time, Prometheus, both parties came to the bargaining table. A deal was struck, and the two city-states joined forces. While the deal was unbalanced in favour of Michina, Kardomos did secure concessions that granted it special status in the future Aristeian Empire. Prometheus was made general of the forces Kardomos would contribute to their shared ventures, and swiftly became indispensable at Calanthe's side. His loyalty was rewarded in 00 as he made a blood-oath of loyalty to the Imperial House of Ariste, and was thus given both the lordship of Kardomos and right to form his own House, which became House Prometheus.

Prometheus married Amaya, a weaver, in 00. In legend and various dramatizations, she was a poor weaver girl who could weave masterpieces in a night's time. Historians suggest she was likely an influential figure in the weaver's guild, either the daughter of an important family or a particularly skilled weaver, and that Prometheus married her for her connections. They had three children, starting with the twins Elusine and Elucia in 00, and the third a sickly boy named Deneb in 00. Recent evidence has reignited a debate as to whether Elusine and Elucia were a single person, as fragmentary sources from that time period refer to them as a singular, rather than the plural. This generation of House Prometheus continued their father's good relation to the Imperial House of Ariste: Elucia was formally betrothed to Caedan in 00, married in 00, and Elusine was Caedan's best friend and right-hand man.

Aristeian Civil War

Given House Prometheus' ties with Caedan, they supported his ascension to Archon when Ariston died in 00, and supported him during the Aristeian Civil War against Cydonia. Lord Prometheus himself was Caedan's main advisor until his death in 00, when he was killed defending the palace vaults. Elusine inherited his father's role as Lord Prometheus, as well as his father's position of advisor to Caedan. Secondary sources report that Elucia and Caedan's marriage was under pressure to produce an heir, but Caedan put them off, insisting his youngest sister, the Princess Cordilla, would be an adequate heir until the fighting was over. Regardless, their union did not produce any children before Caedan's death in the Battle of Sonoo in 00. Elusine died in the battle as well, and Elucia is suggested to have died from either grief or suicide when she received word that neither her husband nor her twin brother had survived. As neither Elusine nor Elucia had children, their youngest brother, Deneb, became Lord Prometheus.

Unrest

There are very limited records of House Prometheus during the time period after the Battle of Sonoo. House Prometheus joined and egged on the purge of House Zelos as retribution for Caedan, Elusine, and Elucia's deaths, and declined in fortune afterwards. It is suggested that House Prometheus took substantial losses during the Aristeian Civil War, and combined with a young, sickly leader unprepared for lordship, it shrank back into the shadows, taking a backseat to the might of House Themis during this time. Deneb's major contribution to Sinnoh history is actually his alleged creation of the oraculum cards. Readings are still offered by House Prometheus even today.

Current affairs

Missing children

Most recently, House Prometheus was thrust into the spotlight due to the disappearance of both children of Regulus Adrasteia by his wife, Andromeda Cygnus. The younger son, Lucian Adrasteia, was discovered missing from his bed on Month 00, 0000. He was 8 at the time. The disappearence prompted a manhunt through Hearthome City, where the family lived, and the surrounding area. Two weeks later, on Month 00, the elder son, William Adrasteia, similarly vanished from his bed in the dead of night. There were differing circumstances between the two disappearances; William was suspected to have run away given the clothing, shoes, and food that had vanished along with him. In the end, neither children were found, and the case was shelved and declared cold after the initial six months of searching. The disappearance of both children left Regulus without children, and he was forced to appoint his younger half-brother Orion Adrasteia as heir. Notably, the disappearances came towards the end of a spate of disappearing children across Sinnoh — including the disappearances of other children and relatives of notable political figures in Sinnoh. It was suggested that they were kept as political hostages against their families.

Sometime between his disappearance and the registration for a Trainer's license in 0000, Lucian and the other children managed to escape. Under the name Lucian Swan, he participated in the Sinnoh League Challenge, and won the 00th Lily of the Valley Conference. He declined to challenge the Elite Four and the Champion, and vanished. Two years later, he resurfaced as an assistant to Professor Rowan and travelling companion to Cynthia Aidos, who later defeated Champion Eltan, becoming Sinnoh's current Champion. Lucian was appointed an Elite Four member, but while he has acknowledged the connection between himself, his parents, and House Prometheus, he refused Regulus' offer of heirship, and reportedly has repeatedly threatened to cut all political ties with the House.

Orion, the erstwhile heir and Elite Four member under Eltan, was arrested and tried for kidnapping and fraud. He later confessed to planning Lucian's kidnapping, but vehemently denied having anything to do with William's disappearance. He was sentenced to 00 years in jail and 00 hours of community service. While William is still declared missing, there are substantial rumours that Johto's Elite Four Will is the missing child in question. Will has been asked about the topic, and refuses to say anything on the matter.

Symbols of House Prometheus

House Prometheus places significance in the number three, as their patron are the lake guardians: Mesprit, Azelf, and Uxie. Their symbol is the tail that the three Pokémon share, usually tangled together in an unending group of three. The three lakes that they are said to live in, Lake Verity, Lake Valor, and Lake Acuity, are sacred places to House Prometheus, and young members of the house will often attempt to visit all three lakes to leave offerings in hopes of gaining their blessing.

The Red Chain

Fragmentary records indicate that during the Aristeian Empire, House Prometheus were also called Keepers of the Red Chain. Modern historians believe this to be a purely ceremonial title, since the Red Chain is a mythical object with no evidence of its existence beyond drawings and descriptions from folklore. Attempts have been made to find it, but have proven unsatisfactory. Instead, historians suggest that it was given because of the appearance of their sacred sword, Triune, whose blade is said to have the appearance and edge of the Red Chain.

Triune

Most of what is known about Triune is through writings and art left from the Aristeian Age to the safekeeping of House Prometheus. From the Latin tri- for "three" and une for "one", Triune is a whip sword with a blood red blade. It is allegedly one of five Aristeian Relics said to have been created by a blood-oath ceremony of loyalty sworn by Prometheus and his fellow generals to the House of Ariste. However, the blade was lost sometime during the Age of Unrest, though it is said to have been recently rediscovered by House Prometheus. Requests to examine the sword have been declined, and its legitimacy has been called into question.
